Things I have really liked recently – part 1.

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

I’m trying to take some peace from the fact that sometimes you can think really hard, and try various sensible things and still be left mainly clueless repeating the mantra ‘It’s just a phase. It’s just a phase…’

These are the days when I have to look at the bigger picture and think about what I want FB to know in his heart – that he is loved unconditionally. That he is safe, and listened to. And respected.

And then I go back and re-read Pillow Talk, which is one of the few things on sleep and babies (well, my baby at least – which is all I’m qualified to talk about), that matches how I feel in my gutt. I can’t express how soothing it has been.

Dinosaur Prints

There are worse places for a little boy to wait for his dad to finish work and come meet us. :)

It was the first of (I’m certain very very) many trips to the Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museum.  As someone who was parotting the film commentary at the London Natural History Museum before the age of three, I’m looking forward to revisiting my dinosaur-loving past.

(Some of FB’s grandparents, who have been going with his cousins for the last five years are understandable, less enthused. But you can’t stand between a boy and the skeletons of giant prehistoric lizards.)

In the greenhouse

We have out fingers crossed that the dreaded B word won’t get our tomatoes this year, despite the rain. We are already eatting some of the ‘jellybean’ variety, which are colouring up, a small handful at a time.

Somehow, in the days between harvesting the onions and yesterday, the chilli plants have seemingly tripled in size, and thrown out a ton of fruit. I see chilli oil in our future (something I only think about when we eat pizza, and then regret we don’t have!)
