Faroe Seraphim

Faroe Seraphim by Miriam L. Felton
My Ravelry Post: here
Yarn: Oxford Kitchen Yarns Sock Yarn - Gold (2 skeins), Lemoncurd (1 skein)
Needles: 4mm
Notes: I can’t leave a good pattern alone it seems, so instead of knitting this as a triangular shawl, I knit it with faroe shaping.

Faroe Seraphim

Of course this meant I ran out of yarn, even though I was *sure* two skeins (850+ m) was going to be enough. That said I actually like the edging, and I think blending it in worked pretty well.

Faroe Seraphim

It actually finished this last December, but I remember it being a fun knit, despite only having a lace edging, rather than lace all the way through.

(ETA: Of course, it’s all Jenny’s fault. She wore her’s to the IknitLondon show last year, and I was blow away by how amazing it looked, and had to start planning one for myself. ;)

It’s a huge shawl - so much so that I can wrap it around the front of my body, and tie the ends at the base of my back (when I’m not *really* pregnant), which is a handy traditional way of wearing a shawl without having to fuss with it all the time.

Faroe Seraphim

Conclusion? Great shawl, which I think really showed off the yarn. I’m really pleased with it.

Bump at 32 1/2 weeks

Despite my general need to go into the guts of my phone and turn off whatever I turned on that started date stamping my photos, it’s kinda useful to have it here, since it’s proof (of sorts) that it *is* in fact August, despite needed my walking boots and an umbrella just to go into town.

But anyways it’s good for the veggies (apart from the tomatoes which are likely to start blighting pretty soon. But even that means we’ll just have more green tomato pickle for the winter. So really there isn’t much of a downside, if you look hard enough.

Yeah, so the bump is pretty damn big now. :)

Anyways… KNITTING!

Currently on my needles is a version of Something Red by Knit and Tonic mixed with the visual style of Gloria from Noro (Ravelry link).

Something Handspun

The stripes are half Jo Sharp Silk Road DK tweed, which I originally used to make the Picovoli Jumper a couple of years ago (and then ripped because I loved the yarn, and never wore the jumper. I’m fearless like that.) and half the wensleydale Handspun that I have been working on. Despite W’s protests, like with the Gloria cardigan, the body of this cardigan is reverse stocking stitch, since I’m not big on stripes going the width of my body. Plus I love the dottiness of it.

Something Handspun

Then, instead of 2×2 rib for the body, which I think might be a bit harsh so soon after giving birth, given I’m planning to wear this this coming winter, I changed it to lovely mistake rib, which gives a similar - but softer - effect.

Oh and I’ll probably make the sleeves full length.

(Aside - I wish places in the UK stocked Silkroad tweed, since it’s wonderful stuff.)

Firstly: QueenoftheFroggers finished her Swallowtail Shawl in Oxford Kitchen Yarns sock yarn. It’s superb. Go look! :)

Secondly: I owe a stack of emails to people. hopefully i’ll get my arse in gear tomorrow, and get them sorted out. Sorry.

Thirdly:

I have the lurgy. (Thank you man who coughed on me on the bus.) It’s not a serious lurgy, but I’d rather head it off at the pass if I can right now, which meant getting the jobs that really needed doing done, and then curling up in bed with plenty of drink and my knitting.

EZ garter blanket - baby size

I’m sure you’ll be shocked to hear how much knitting for bump has been going on recently. But little projects are perfect for the summer, especially along side the bigger projects I want to get done. This is a bit of both. It’s a baby version of the Elizabeth Zimmermann Garter Stitch blanket (here is Brooklyntweed’s recently completed version.)

I’m knitting it in Oxford Kitchen Yarn Aran, with the center panels in undyed and the outer sections in a colour that has yet to be decided upon. (It’s a good way of working out how much yarn i’m going to need, since one center panel is an eighth of the whole thing.)

Also on the needles is a Shetland Shorty in 21st Century Yarns Silk.

Shetland Shorty

I’ve had this yarn for a few years now. I bought it orginally to make some sort of wrap to wear at our wedding. To be honest the scarf/wrap i made didn’t get much wear, though it worked with the outfit. But I had alot of the silk left, and i’ve always wanted to make something from it, even if it meant ripping back the original scarf. (Which it probably will, and i’m fine with that.)

I’m hoping the Shetland Shorty will work well. (Though it’s slightly on hold till i get a pointer needle since the k2togs in silk are driving me a bit batty.)

As for recent FOs…

Everyone needs a blue rabbit

Everyone Needs A Blue Rabbit

Ravelry post or Lion Brand Link to Pattern.

This was knit with Debbie Bliss Wool/Cotton (and luckily I have enough left over for another couple if it proves popular.)

It was a very quick, very cute knit. A good alternative to baby socks or booties if you need a last minute gift.

Country Kiddie - Alpaca Silk

Blue Sky Country Kiddie

Ravelry post or Link to pattern.

Oh Blue Sky Alpaca Silk how i love you! (And I still have 1 1/3 skeins left to make something else - maybe some fingerless mitts for me - I’m thinking of getting a skein of the red, and striping them. :)

I really love this pattern. In fact I’m planning to knit another one, though sleeveless as per the original pattern, from the left over ball of cash cotton left over from my tunic top. :)

I added the lace - it was crying out for something to be added to it, given i was using an even coloured yarn.

Drops Autumn Scarf

Drops Autumn Leaf Scarf

Ravelry post or Link to pattern.

This was made using the 22g i had left over after making my sideways garter stitch scarf (which I love!)

It proved to be a totally down to the wire project, but i had *just* enough yarn thank goodness.

(This is another pattern that knits up in no time at all. And it looks like it’ll stay on really well. At least while they are small. :)

Mossy Jacket - finished

Mossy Jacket

Ravelry post or Link to pattern.

This was my first time knitting with Noro. Again, it was another knitting down to the wire project. In fact I ended up knitting the sleeves from two ends of what was left of the second ball, so that i could keep them even. I think I ended up with about 6m of yarn left to spare.

The moss edging is Kilcarra aran.

And finally…

TV room - redecorated.

Our tv room. Finally decorated the weekend before last. \o/

Sleeveless Tunic Top by bergere de france
My Ravelry Post: here
Yarn: Rowan Classic Cash Cotton - sea foam, 5 balls (though i bought 6, and without the adjustments - see notes - it would have needed all 6.)
Needles: 3.25mm
Notes: The pattern calls for it to be knit in as a front and a back, so I converted it to knit in the round, and lopped a good 2 inches off the length, since otherwise it would have been closer to a dress, which i wasn’t sure was going to work since I’m 5′6″ and naturally pear shaped.

The yarn is incredible. Seriously. I don’t like knitting with cotton, but this stuff is special and has a lovely colour range. (That said, right now it’s liable to pill, though i’m hoping it’ll settle down after a while.) It’s certainly very soft, and smooshy, for a cotton.

blurry but i think i look nice. :)

It’ll be interesting to see how this looks after the baby is born. I’m hoping it won’t be too loose the flappy as a top. (That said, i think there is room to grow in the body of the top, so i’m hoping it’ll get lots of use for the next 4 months at least.

So, much of the bank holiday was spent at Jaq’s house, watching tv, catching up, and being fed incredibly well. (Mainly from the Ottolenghi Cook Book, which i cannot recommend highly enough.)

I was introduced to CSI, (which is good, and why haven’t i been watching it, since it’s not hard to find it on tv?), Boston Legal (which was wonderful!) and we endured Eurovision, and did the traditional thing of feeling that the UK was robbed.

(Given that Bump can now apparently hear things in utero, i do feel a bit bad about it having been exposed to Eurovision so early. But i guess it had to learn sometime?)

Oh and I also knit. A LOT.

My tunic top went from this:

about 3 days work...

to this:

...work done over the weekend.

in just over 24 hours. I brought two extra balls with me, each of which was 180m, plus i had about a third of a ball already in use, and i came home with far less that a third of a ball left. This is what happens when you take public transport to go visit a knitter.

It was perfect catch up knitting though - mindless enough that i could concentrate on conversation and what we were watching, (though it did mean i the odd ripping back half a row to fit in the decreases where necessary), and luckily Jaq and I have been friends and knitters long enough that the constant wiggling of my fingers wasn’t a problem.

I was perfect for my knitting too, since this top wasn’t in my list, and snuck in as something that might be useful to me for the next few months. So i wanted to knock it out of the park as soon as possible - as soon as you can, with 4ply yarn, and 3.25mm needles that is! - so that i could actually wear it.

I’m now just at the point of decreasing for the straps, and given I re-jigged the pattern to knit it in the round, i’m hopeful i can get it finished in the next few evenings, especially since I’m off to the Bluestockings tonight.

(Of course, if it turns out that cutting two inches off the length was a bad idea, i’ll have to split the body at the relevant point, knit the two inches, and graft it all back together again - which is going to take a bit longer. But we’ll see.)

I love it when endless knits turn out not to be endless. Mind you for it not to be endless I have to get on and actually do it. :D
